As you may already know, the Canada Revenue Agency is changing how sales taxes are administered in British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
On April 1, 2013 the 12% HST will be replaced by the 5% GST.
On April 1, 2013 PEI will follow the provinces of Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador in replacing its PST with the HST. The combined HST rate in PEI will be 14%, of which 5% will represent the federal part and 9% the provincial part.
Mr.Host will be adjusting our tax rates as of midnight on April 1st, 2013. Good news for our BC customers who’s monthly bills will be going down; unfortunately, our PEI customers aren’t as lucky.
Starting this month, Mr.Host is changing the way we send you your monthly bills.
From now on, rather than just sending the current monthly hosting invoice, we will now send a full statement of accounts, that includes all invoices and payments posted to your account, since the last billing date.
The main reason for this change, was because many customers have domains that automatically renew at various times during the month. When these domains renew, there is an invoice, and payment (if required) posted to the account, but by default, these invoices and payments are not e-mailed out to customers automatically.
Individual invoices and payments are available, and will continue to be available, via the Customer Control Panel, but many customers prefer having the invoices e-mailed to them automatically.
Unfortunately, our first attempt to send out the new statements didn’t work so well. You’ll notice that the statements you received include all invoices and payments for the entire life of your account, and not just from the last billing date.
This is clearly an error on our system when generating the statements, and if you can bear with us, will be rectified and re-processed tomorrow afternoon.
We apologize for the confusion
As you know, HST will be coming into effect on July 1st, 2010 in Ontario and British Columbia. Mr.Host, being a Toronto based company, is obligated to start charging HST on everything we invoice.
We didn’t think this was fair.
So, to be one of the few bills you receive that does not go up, and to show our appreciation for your continued business, we’ve decided to cover the cost of the HST increase. We’ll facilitate this by lowering the price of your monthly hosting, and yearly domain renewals, by an amount (roughly) equivalent to the HST increase.
So your monthly web hosting, and yearly domain registration/renewal costs will NOT go up– in fact, your cost after HST will be lower than what you’re paying right now.
In the weeks leading up to July 1st, we’ll send out an update with your new web hosting and domain registration rates, and then on July 1st, the new rates will go into place.
