If I registered a domain with you and it expired, how do I transfer it to another registrar?

Unfortunately, expired domains cannot be transferred; it is an ICANN regulation. Also, as we are currently a reseller for OpenSRS, domains stay claimed for 30 days after the payment for them expires. After 45 days have passed with no renewal, the domain will automatically be released from OpenSRS’s database. It maybe possible to have an expired domain released before the grace period has expired, but this is at the sole discretion of OpenSRS. If you would like to make such a request, please contact support@mrhost.ca as we will have to contact OpenSRS directly.

Once a domain has fully expired and has been released from the main database server, you would then want to quickly register it anew with the new Registrar. Clearly, it’s best if you get in your transfer request before the domain expires as there is a possibility of losing your domain name to someone else during this interim period.

There is one exception to this rule however. If the new Registrar is also a reseller for OpenSRS and the domain hasn’t fully expired from their system, you can have the new Registrar initiate a registrar transfer and OpenSRS will just transfer the domain over to the new reseller and add an additional year of registration service from the current expiration date.
